Crater Lake partially identifies as a volcanic depression, formed by the collapse of a 12,000 ft. volcano during an enormous eruption approximately 7,700 years ago. With a depth of 1,943 ft., it is the deepest lake in the United States. The lake is considered to be the cleanest and clearest body of water in the world.
