The park is the northernmost national park in the United States, located entirely north of the Arctic Circle. The park is the second largest in the US at 8,472,506 acres, which is larger than Belgium. There is an additional protection to the park which covers 7,167,192 acres. This area, combined with the Noatak Wilderness, form the largest contiguous wilderness in the United States.
